Coincidence...maybe, maybe not
I was just sitting thinking as I do about things that happen in life and their meanings; if there is meaning in things that happen or if we apply meaning to happenings to bring us comfort and make sense of the world. A lot of the time they can be the latter but sometimes its hard not to take note of things that happen.
Linking from my last post regarding the power of words, etc... My name is Salome Saba, my parents were rastas when i was born so Salome came from the bible.
"Salome comes from the Hebrew word (Shalem) meaning to be complete, sound. The similar derivative (shalem) means perfect, whole, full. Another derivative is Shalom meaning peace."
I do believe i am a rather peaceful person if i do say so myself (haha) but being all those things listed in the description of my first name have always taken precedent in my life, especially the last 10 years or so, the things that interest me most stem from a yearning to be a peaceful, whole and complete within myself. I have always wondered if my name had anything to do with that...I have always known the meaning of the name Salome but i wonder if on another level whenever someone says my name they call upon a peaceful person and if that has become part of my being because of that or if it is just part of a natural life's journey.
I got my first tattoo as a daft and lost 18 year old in the tattoo shop with my 'first love' who was getting his first tattoo and offered to get me one. I looked around the shop and picked out the eye of Heru (or horus). I had no idea what it meant at the time as I was not in my history buff stage by then but knew it was Egyptian.
(This is gonna turn into a little Salome history lesson lol) At the age of 21 i got a job somewhere called the Nottinghamshire Black Partnership whose logo was the eye of Heru like my tattoo. That job in itself was a life changing experience because of the people i met there. My boss was a African Caribbean Muslim named Abdullah Nazir Uhuru who was one of the most blessed people i have ever met and changed my life in that he opened my eyes to a new way of looking at life, this was where my love of history started. The debates we had in the office felt like church. He was a muslim but did not push his religion, just knowledge, wisdom and love and was funny with it too.
He also introduced me to a singer called India Arie who to this day is my favourite singer and has helped me through every up and down i have had since. When he introduced me to the album he gave me the CD and said play track 14 which was this song...

After listening to the song...is it a coincidence that Abdullah Nazir Uhuru (who i know is resting in peace, as he lived in it) died suddenly at a young age leaving behind a beautiful wife and with whom he had his two youngest sons? India's album is full of beautiful songs...it just strikes a chord with me that a life changing man, handed me a life changing album and told me to play that song, like it spoke to him.
Is it a coincidence i worked at a place with a logo that i blindly had tattooed on may arm 3 years earlier and that working there changed my life and consciousness? Maybe...maybe not
A little deeper...
My middle name is Saba. If you know me well then you know i have a love of history, especially "African" history and even more specifically that of Ancient Kemet or Egypt. I was raised knowing that Saba derived from the Queen of Sheba (which might explain my thirst for knowledge) and meant 7 in Arabic but never really dug any deeper than that until recently.
Where i found that "Auset takes up residence in the star system Sapadet (spd.t), often called 'Sirius'. The root word "Sapad" (Spd) means 'to provide'. Auset is thus called "The Great Provider". She is the Queen of the star system Sapadet, and is therefore known as 'the Queen of Sapad.t', or Sapad, which was corrupted into Shabat, Shabad, Shaba, and Saba (Sheba)"
As stated above my first tattoo was ancient symbol so i am happy that i have never had to regret it lol. My second tattoo was an ankh with 5 point stars trickling down my back from the bottom of it. I chose the ankh for its strong symbolism and the stars because i knew they symbolised learning and another realm of consciousness...i did not know however that the name for these stars were Seba and/or Saba! I then learned the above regarding the names link to Auset! Auset in the metaphorical stories of Kemet is a faculty and representation of the mother of Heru (my first tattoo) i.e. the representation of the mother of Will power...the sacred feminine, the ying to the yang (she is also the original Mary, as in mother of Christ or (heru), but again, that's another blog).
"Auset is the embodiment of those intuitive and instinctive faculties that lay deep within our psyche, governing our ability to care for and nurture others. People in whom this faculty is strongly developed are very protective, caring, nurturing and peaceful"
Erm... sounds a bit Salome like too lol
Granted i am very interested in ancient Kemet but only found out these things after i had them tattooed on my body. I unwittingly got tattoos that directly relate to my name without knowing....coincidence...maybe...maybe not?
Update
I recently came across this
I'm pretty sure my parents were not aware of this Jewish tradition and again, links my two names and again stars are part of the story!

RIP Abdullah Uhuru
تريل ميسد
Abdullah was father. Its so beautiful and refreshing to read about the positive influences he had on someone's life. Although he physically isn't he, reading or hearing about him helps me choose right from wrong.
ReplyDeleteThank you
Qaasim Abdullah Uhuru
Qaasim, i remember you as a child and your father spoke about you often. He truly was one of the most blessed souls I ever met and influenced me as a young black woman in a way that I am not even sure he was aware of. Although only here a short time, the impact he made to those around him was powerful and long lasting.
DeleteI'm glad that through hearing about him, you find guidance and I hope you are okay.
With love,
Salome x
Salam, what happened to his kids from his first marriage?
